50th Reunion Programme
18 Jan 2015 20:10 – Vinay Mehta’s email to [IITK65]
Dear Friends,
It’s been 50 Years since we joined IITK. It seems like it was just yesterday we were having a “Gali” competition between the “Halls” on a powerless, moonless night, or the rooftop underwear / bikini parties. How time as flown?!!!
A Batch reunion is being organised in the US (NJ) in June 2015 for which there seems to be a fairly enthusiastic response and I’m sure would be good fun.
We have, however, received an invite from our Institute for organizing a reunion in the campus also. The 1964 batch had their 50th year reunion at the campus a couple of months back. There were 38 batch members most with wives and some children / grandchildren. And, from the feedback received, they had good fun.
I understand that not too many from India would be able to make it to the US for the June reunion, cost of travel being the major deterrent. It is, therefore, being proposed that we have a second reunion in India at the IITK campus in November 2015.
We are all getting on in age, and for some this may be the last opportunity to visit the campus. Of course I would look forward to the 60th year reunion also. Also we must also maintain the tradition of having the batch reunions at the institute at least once every 10 years. (Yes its been 10 years since the last reunion at the Institute).
The proposed dates are Nov 27, 28 and 29th, 2015 (Fri-Sun). Diwali is 11th Nov. So this is a good two weeks after Diwali.
The program based on what was organized for the 64 batch —
On day one (27th), the institute would arrange the lunch. In the afternoon we can plan to go around the campus. Those who are keen can also go for glider rides. We can plan a batch dinner at night.
On Day two (28th), after Breakfast at the VH – a visit to Bithoor , followed by an address by the Dir / AA secy at the Auditorium and felicitation of each participant by the Dir .
Lunch followed by Group photograph and then an hours rest then interaction of some of the participants with Senior students / visit to some interesting sites at the campus, followed by Tea.
Late evening Gala dinner hosted at the Director’s Bungalow. This dinner is actually hosted by the participants for the Director and the Senior Faculty.
Day three (29th) Breakfast at the VH. Farewell Lunch at Directors Bungalow. For the 64th batch each participant was given a LapTop Bag and Group Photo.
We can reschedule some of the activities as per our needs for which please give your inputs /suggestions.
The Institute’s Registration charges are Rs 12K per head. The amount includes STAY at VH and three lunches, breakfasts and Two Dinners. The institute also arranges pickup from and drop to the Kanpur Railway Station. No extra charges for wives / small kids. No discounts if you don’t bring your wife.
We need to confirm the dates and numbers to the Institute as soon as possible so that rooms at the VH can be reserved.
Also we look forward to some sponsorships so that we can arrange some music DJ and also so that the per head costs get subsidized.
Please respond fast so that we can get the ball rolling.
Regards,
Vinay
